Media Release: The ‘Celebrity Big Brother effect'; HMV report tenfold increase in Ordinary Boys’ sales

PRESTON is way out front in the show’s battle of the music celebrities – but sales
by all three pop contestants in Celebrity Big Brother have shot up as a result of
the show.

Goldie Lookin’ Chain’s ‘Safe As Fuck’ album – featuring Big Brother’s Maggot – has
trebled in sales at HMV.co.uk while ‘Evolution’, the ‘best of’ album by Pete Burns’
original band Dead or Alive, has seen a fourfold increase since the show’s start
last Thursday.

Says Gideon Lask, HMV head of Internet: “We sometimes wonder why any celebrity would
put themselves through Big Brother, but now, I think, we have the answer. These
guys have only been in the house for a few days and, while admittedly building from
a relatively low sales base at this time of year, they are already seeing some
benefit to their recording careers.

“Who knows, perhaps Chantelle may have a career with Kandy Floss – with a ‘K’ -
after all. Reality TV seems to make anything possible these days.”
