Media Release: New logo unveiled for Dundee’s Al-Maktoum Institute

THE Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Dundee unveiled its new logo today.

It is the first change to the logo since the Institute’s formation in 2002 and its launch also marked the start of a new academic year under new Principal, Professor Malory Nye with a record number of students enrolled.

The widely recognised, original and traditional Arabic pattern roundel stays but the colour blue has been introduced, a reference to the Scottish Saltire.

The words ‘Dundee’ and ‘Scotland’ have been added to the logo to emphasise the Institute’s position as part of the Scottish Higher educational system, and to promote its place in the city.

“We are very pleased with the new look logo,” said Professor Nye. “Blue is a strong Scottish colour and we feel it demonstrates, culturally, our links with the community, and physically, in terms of geographic location.

“The logo shows our forward looking and innovative agenda, highlighting our message of diverse thinking for today’s world.

“We wanted a subtle and notable change, but not a dramatic one and that’s what we’ve achieved.”

Professor Nye and the new intake students will unveil a banner and release balloons in the new corporate colours at the event.
