Media Release: Training programme calls for creative new business stars

BUDDING entrepreneurs in the Highlands and Islands have just a few weeks left to make it into next year’s Starter for Six initiative which helps the country’s next generation of business stars.

Starter for Six is an enterprise development project led by the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), running in Scotland until the end of 2009.

Supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), it aims to assist entrepreneurs over the three-year project and work with partners to create an innovative environment.

The initiative is looking for outstanding applicants from across the Highlands and Islands with innovative business ideas including products and services. They should come from any of the faculties of science, technology or the arts/creative industries. The deadline for the 2009 programme is January 26 2009.

More than 250 people applied to the 2008 Starter for Six training programme in Scotland with eight applications making it through in the Highlands and Islands.
