Media Release: Ayrshire and Cambridgeshire building contractors, William Skinner & Son, make new staff appointment

AS part of the company’s ongoing dynamic expansion, building contractors, William Skinner & Son of Ayrshire, in Scotland and Cambridgeshire in England, have appointed Liz Warrs as office manager of their Southern Division based in Meldreth near Cambridge.

Liz (31) was formerly transport co-ordinator and administrator with Cam European Freight Services in Royston. She lives in Sandy, Bedfordshire.

In addition to office management, Liz will also be charged with responsibility for logistics – sourcing labour, plant and materials and coordinating their placement with Skinners’ contracts team and supporting the contracts team to deliver projects.

Speaking of her new appointment, Liz said: “Working in the building and construction industry is a whole new challenge for me, and quite a large learning curve! I have been very warmly welcomed by everybody at William Skinner & Son, and look forward to the future, expanding my knowledge within a new industry, and helping Skinners’ Southern Division continue to expand successfully.”

William Skinner & Son managing director, Sandy Cunningham, commented: “Liz Warrs has joined our Southern Division as office manager at Meldreth.

“She originally worked for us on a temporary basis, but it quickly became obvious that she would be a good candidate to take on the role in a full-time permanent capacity. As an experienced administrator and logistics co-ordinator, she will be able to support our management team as William Skinner & Son’s Southern Division maintains and continues its present rapid growth.”

Sandy Cunningham continued: “We see the Southern Division based in Meldreth as being instrumental in our company’s UK expansion programme.

“The company continues to grow its current client base and skills range, and is exploiting opportunities in many new emerging markets such as renewable energy.

“William Skinner & Son has traditional values which run in conjunction with 21st century principles.”

William Skinner & Son chair, John Quinton, added: “This is our latest move consistent with our growth plan, which is now exactly on target. Apart from offering more of our general building contracting work in England, we also have scope to increase our exciting renewable energy work, for which there is now great demand, especially for dual or multiple technology systems.”

ABOUT WILLIAM SKINNER & SON

Building contractors William Skinner & Son’s Ayrshire and Cambridgeshire bases cover Scotland and Eastern England with activities including building maintenance with 24-hour helpdesk, retail refurbishment and construction, painting, joinery manufacture, metal fabrication, terrazzo tiling, shopfitting, Sika Trocal and Ward Topdeck roofing, and solar hot water installation.

William Skinner & Son have recently diversified into tree houses with contracts from leading hotel and conference centre group De Vere Venues.

They have also made a successful entrance into the solar heating market, attracting a large number of new clients throughout the UK, and have demonstrated their commitment to the wider field of renewable energy by installing a 6kW Proven wind turbine at their HQ in St. Quivox and including PV panels in the design for their proposed office extension.

The aim now is to offer general advice on the suitability of any of the available renewable energy techniques, or any mix of them, to solve individual energy supply problems, and they are developing a consortium of available local expertise to help them develop that.
