Media Release: Glasgow-born entrepreneur, Azeem Ibrahim, joins new commission on social mobility

AZEEM Ibrahim, the young Scottish entrepreneur and founder of ECM Holdings, has been appointed by the Cabinet Office to the Prime Minister’s task force examining social mobility in UK.

The new commission on social mobility, established to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds access career opportunities in key professions, comprises a six-strong panel of industry leaders and is chaired by former cabinet minister, Alan Milburn.

Measures to promote social mobility are to be set out in a white paper today (13.01.09).

Mr Ibrahim’s own career progression provides a remarkable example of just what can be achieved by those from humble backgrounds in the UK. Having been raised in a council house in Anderston Glasgow, over the course of the last year he has become a renowned advisor to world leaders and attended the White House last summer, as a guest of President George Bush, at the age of 32.
