Media Release: Building contractors, William Skinner & Son, complete new treehouse contract

BUILDING contractors, William Skinner & Son in Ayrshire, Scotland and Cambridgeshire in England, have completed their latest treehouse contract.

The treehouse was built for a private householder and his wife living in Cambridge, who required a play structure in the garden for their children.

William Skinner & Son first diversified into treehouses and other garden structure in March 2007, when they won a contract from UK hotel and conference venue company, De Vere Venues, to construct a treehouse at their Theobalds Park location in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

The company wanted a treehouse as an unusual conference and seminar facility.

The result was a commercial success for De Vere, and a second contract for a treehouse followed at their venue at New Place, Shirrell Heath near Southampton.

William Skinner & Son’s very successful entrance into the bespoke and custom built tree house market is part of the company’s overall diversification and development programme.

With their long established joinery pedigree and existing in-house knowledge on tree houses, it seemed only natural that the company showcase it’s talent, and what better way than build tree houses, the ultimate in bespoke construction.

Tree houses come in all shapes and sizes:

* Magical children’s playhouse

* Adventure playground

* Suave entertaining areas

* Fully equipped home offices

* Enchanting family retreat

* Guest rooms, libraries and even entire houses

William Skinner & Son’s fully qualified tradesmen have over fifteen years combined experience in tree house building, and have been involved with projects nationwide in the UK and across Europe. The company only employs professional people, this alone sets it aside from the competition.

Fully project-managed from initial enquiry through to construction, William Skinner & Son’s jobs are always delivered on time whilst maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout.

William Skinner & Son’s service covers everything from:

* Tree house site evaluation and planning

* Tree house design

* Tree house construction

* Arborist consultation

* Tree house maintenance

* Tree house guarantee.

William Skinner treehouses are designed and constructed by the company’s Garden Structures Division.

William Skinner & Son managing director, Sandy Cunningham, said: “Skinner Garden Structures are committed to producing exquisite tree houses, summer houses and lodges for children, for guests, for you; giving you a delightful room of your own in the garden, for relaxing, dreaming or entertaining. Or providing you with a tree house where children can enter their own magical world of fantasy and enchantment.

“Our vision for the coming year is to actively promote and grow this exciting new division of William Skinner & Son and to nurture it so that it fulfils all the expectations of our clients and affords many different opportunities for our valuable craftsmen.”

The company also offers contract maintenance and has recently diversified further, into custom garden structures, notably treehouses, and solar thermal systems – for which it is now fully Microgeneration Certified.

Skinners’ recently introduced renewable energy survey service is already in demand, supporting its offer to install any kind of renewable energy system.

Founded in 1964, Skinners made their first move down south into England six years ago. But the company’s recent expansion and diversification into new areas of business made it necessary the purchase of their own larger facilities comprising an 8,000 sq. ft yard, 1,900 sq. ft of office space, and a 1,620 sq. ft warehouse.

The new premises in Meldreth, near Cambridge, were officially opened in 2008 by Andrew Lansley, MP for South Cambridgeshire.

William Skinner & Son managing director, Sandy Cunningham, said: “Our commitment at Cambridge is a measure of the importance to us of the market in London, the South East, Midlands and East Anglia.

“The Meldreth base provides high quality warehouse, workshop and office accommodation from which we are already developing our capacity and increasing our market penetration. It is capable of supporting several times its present level of activity.”
