Media Release: Law Society takes to the road with Registers of Scotland

FRAUD, Home Reports and electronic land registration are among the issues up for discussion at a series of conveyancing roadshows organised by the Law Society of Scotland and Registers of Scotland (RoS).

The six seminars, which begin in Edinburgh next month before going to other cities and towns around Scotland, will cover a range of issues and topics, including the interim review of Home Reports in Scotland, issues surrounding mortgage lender panels, an update on the Home Owner & Debtor Protection Act 2010 and the current Land Registration Bill and changes in registration procedures.

On the agenda for discussion are ARTL and ARTL Lloyds update, fraud, fee review, and title investigation. Delegates will be asked for their choice of topic when they register, with the most sought after topics delivered at each location.

Janette Wilson, convener of the Society’s conveyancing committee, said: “We have built on the success of last year’s conveyancing roadshows around Scotland to create a programme for 2010 that aims to provide what our members and those in the property sector need to know.

“The round table discussions also mean that there is the opportunity for debate and in depth discussions about some of the changes in conveyancing practice and procedures as well as meet representatives from the Society’s conveyancing committee and RoS.”

Kenny Crawford, at RoS, said: “We were keen to team up again this year with the Society as last year’s roadshows were such a success. Solicitors, particularly conveyancers, have been through a very difficult time and even as the property market starts to recover, the recent dip means there are no assurances of a steady improvement. The choice of topics will help keep solicitors up to date and in how to deal with the practicalities of their day to day business.”
