Media Release: Seafood business targets top tables

A MORAY premium seafood business is expanding operations after breaking into new overseas markets by targeting the world’s dining elite.

Lossie Seafoods Ltd, which specialises in producing premium quality seafood products from its base on March Road, Buckie, has recently won new orders from the Middle East.

It has grown its business on a reputation of excellence in customer service and producing artisan smoked salmon using unique smoking methods. At 12 pm today (Friday June 2), Lossie Seafoods welcome a visit from Richard Lochhead, MSP for Moray.

Charlie Devin, sales and marketing director and co-owner for Lossie Seafoods, said: “We source all our raw materials from suppliers renowned for their sustainable practices, some of which have achieved the Label Rouge mark of recognition for their high standards in aquaculture and the Freedom Food award for some of the most sustainable practices in the world.”

As a high-growth company, Lossie Seafoods is a Highlands and Islands Enterprise account-managed business.

Mandy Holmes, HIE account manager, said: “The success of Lossie Seafoods can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the entire workforce. They are a very forward thinking business. They took part in HIE’s recent International Strategy Workshop and are working to a four year strategy and action plan.”

The business employs 40 staff and is due to take delivery of two new smoker units, which promise to triple capacity at the Buckie factory. Director and co-owner, John Cowe, is the third generation founder member of ‘The Pride of Scotland’ brand. Four director owners run the business, John Cowe, Charlie Devin, George Nolan, and Derek Hutchins.

Lossie Seafoods’ premium smoked salmon is now stocked in Magasin du Nord, said to be the Danish equivalent of Harrods. The business also supplies the Al Maharah restaurant at the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, which promotes itself as serving only the finest seafood in the world.
