Media Release: Sneak preview of Scotland at this year’s EIBTM

A WARM welcome and a sneak preview of all that is happening in Scotland await EIBTM visitors to the Scotland Stand G300 where the team from VisitScotland’s Business Tourism Unit will be demonstrating how Scotland represents superb quality and good value at the same time.

Says a spokesperson: “With recent research from VisitBritain highlighting that Edinburgh and Glasgow are both in the top three most competitive European destinations in terms of price for association conferences, Scotland is frequently top of the agenda for many associations, hosting on average two association events a week.

“The country’s portion of all international association meetings hosted in the UK rose to 29 per cent this year, with the country’s key industries and centres of academic excellence playing a major role in attracting that business.

“Anyone looking for a conference destination that has it all needs look no further than Scotland which, for a relatively small country, offers an immense and diverse range of venues and accommodation.

“Purpose-built conference centres in all major cities, combined with academic venues, plus accommodation options to suit every budget, make planning an event a question of almost too much choice.”

At EIBTM this year, the BTU is joined by the flagship conference centres in each of Scotland’s major cities, as well the Aberdeen and Edinburgh Convention Bureaux and Glasgow City Marketing.

Hotels from Gleneagles to Cameron House on Loch Lomond will be joined by Apex and Radisson groups, with expert DMCs and event organisers on hand as well.

For venues with a historic flavour, Historic Scotland will showcase an extensive range of castles available for hire, and for a more intimate venue with capacity for large events as well, a warm Scottish welcome is offered by Dundas Castle.

Amanda Henderson, marketing manager, Europe for VisitScotland’s BTU, comments: “Business tourism is a vital economic generator for Scotland delivering in the region of £723 million each year, of which 23 per cent comes from abroad.

“Our main overseas markets include the US, Canada, Germany and Spain.

“In the current challenging conditions, value for money is top of planners’ priorities, but we can honestly say that quality is never compromised by price and furthermore our current exchange rates mean that Scotland has never been so cost-effective.

“We are confident that our range of venues, combined with our passion for our country and all that it offers, as well as our indigenous expertise in sectors such as medicine, bio-technology, education and many more, give us an unbeatable edge over other locations.

“Scotland is famed as the home of golf, our cities all boast vibrant cultural programmes, we have team-building activities to suit every audience and there are outdoor activities for the most energetic to the enthusiastic novice, so we offer plenty of opportunities to have fun as well!”
