Media Release: Radio Clyde Cash for Kids star-studded Christmas lunch

CHART-topping celebs gathered in Glasgow earlier today for the first Radio Clyde Cash for Kids celebrity lunch of the year, sponsored by Asda.

The red carpet was rolled out at the Hilton Hotel for some of the biggest names in the UK music scene, including Pixie Lott, Newton Faulkner, James Morrison, Dionne Bromfield and the MacDonald Brothers, who all wowed the 700 guests with live performances.

The lunch has raised a whopping £170,000 to help needy children in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

James Morrison opened the lunch with ‘Nothing Ever Hurt like You’ followed by his top ten hit, ‘Wonderful World’.

Clyde 1’s George Bowie introduced 13 year-old Dionne Bromfield to the stage to perform her single, ‘Mama Said’.

Dionne, who is Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter, then helped Clyde 1’s Suzie McGuire present a Cash for Kids cheque for £14,693 to Royston Primary School for the Seasons for Growth project.

Starlet Pixie Lott continued the party with four tracks, including her chart-topping ‘Mama Do’, ‘Cry Me Out’ and ‘Isn’t She Lovely’.

The MacDonald Brothers were joined on stage by Ravenswood Primary School Choir for the brothers’ new Cash for Kids single, ‘Three Cheers for Christmas’.

Youngsters at the school were given the opportunity to sing with the Scottish siblings on their Christmas album after winning a competition run on Bauer Media’s AM network (Clyde 2, Forth 2, Northsound 2, Tay AM, and West Sound).

Talented singer / songwriter, Newton Faulkner, closed the show with his top ten hit, ‘Dream Catch Me’, and received a standing ovation for his fantastic version of ‘Bohemiam Rhapsody’.

Radio Clyde’s Cash for Kids chair, Paul Cooney, said:

“It was another special day at Scotland’s number one lunch and every penny raised will help children who need it the most within Glasgow and the West of Scotland.”

Radio Clyde’s station director, Tracey McNellan, added:

“It has been a fantastic day and we would like to thank everyone who donated money, as well as the acts for donating their time to help raise thousands of pounds for Radio Clyde’s Cash for Kids.”
