Media Release: Speed networking event for RAF leavers

RAF personnel currently leaving the Air Force in the Moray region have been given a further opportunity to meet potential new employers from the area.

A ‘speed networking event’, hosted by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), will take place at Horizon Scotland, the Enterprise Park Forres, on Thursday 11th February 2010, from 17:45hrs until 21:00hrs.

Ten local employers are expected to attend along with 40 RAF leavers who are in the market for a challenging new career.

HIE’s Moray area office has previously hosted three speed networking events aimed at RAF leavers and local employers.

These events were extremely well supported with a total of 38 companies and 145 RAF Personnel attending.

The events have resulted in a number of Service Personnel securing civilian employment locally, whilst many others have made promising contacts with local firms.

The majority of staff scheduled to leave the local bases are skilled in aircraft engineering trades, with transferrable engineering skills.

Research shows that two-thirds of those leaving the RAF wish to stay in the local area. The event involves a series of mini interviews between the individual and the company, providing an opportunity to discuss the possibility of a future business relationship, in this case employment.

Scott McKnockiter, development manager for HIE, said: “We work in close collaboration with the MoD Careers Transition Partnership to make sure that those due to leave the service are able to find constructive outcomes in their search for a new career.

“Previous speed networking events have been a great success in providing individuals with opportunities to meet businesses and employers they would not otherwise have met.

“This is part of HIE’s continued effort to retain useful skills within the area which help the competitiveness of our local businesses.”

Businesses and RAF Leavers wishing to find out more or register to attend should contact Scott McKnockiter on (01309) 696019 or scott.mcknockiter@hient.co.uk
