ROBERT Burns described it as ‘strong heart’s blood’, and Caithness and Sutherland businesses are this week being invited to become ambassadors for Scotland’s national drink to encourage local tourism.
The Bard would no doubt have approved of Highlands and Islands Enterprise’s support for whisky school sessions being run locally.
A true devotee of the ‘water of life’, he wrote several poems and songs in praise of the drink.
Scotland Whisky, a private and public partnership initiative, is sharing its knowledge of malt whisky with those working in the tourism sector at two seminars funded by HIE.
One has already run in Sutherland in December and the next will be in Caithness on 11 February.
“Visitors to Caithness and Sutherland have told us that the whisky experience is an important part of their trip. As well as benefiting from increased know-how of whisky making and the distillery trails local businesses can gain the title of Whisky Ambassadors on the Whisky Scotland website map,” said Anne Sutherland of HIE.
