Media Release: Highlands and Islands designer heads for London Fashion Week

AWARD-winning Highlands and Islands designer, Henrietta Ludgate, is putting last-minute preparations together for her latest showcase at the UK’s most prestigious fashion event.

An ambassador for Scottish textiles, Henrietta is showing her exclusive designs again at London Fashion Week (19-23 February) this year.

Her work will be featured within the ‘Estethica’ section of the exhibition at Somerset House, the eco-sustainable initiative sponsored by Monsoon.

The label will also present the collection on twenty models on the last day of the Fashion Week to an audience of international celebrities, press and buyers.

Following her success last season, winning the London Fashion Week Ethical Fashion Forum’s ‘Fashion Innovation Award’ – which was judged by a panel that included designer Roland Mouret and Vogue editor,  Dolly Jones – she has just been informed that she has made the final ten for the British Council’s ‘Young Creative Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year Award’.

She said: “It is wonderful and exciting to be part of London Fashion Week again, and the ‘Estethica’ exhibition, and I am lucky to have a great team to support me.

“The hair team works for Kate Moss, the choreographer for Mark Ronson and the make-up team are from Sky news/sport.

“This season our distinctive sculptural signature of clean, minimalist lines has been created in a collection full of cashmere woven with mink, pure Scottish wool and superfine Yorkshire wool jersey in a palette of midnight blue and smoky grey.

“The collection is inspired by enchanted Highland forests at dusk and legendary tales, from Grimms’ fairy tales to the Brahan Seer – the legendary oracle from the Black Isle.”

Designer fashion has been identified as an area that offers significant growth potential for the Highlands and Islands.

Henrietta is an active member of a designer fashion trade network developed through Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). It works at a local level, but has links to national opportunities.

Susan Purvis, of HIE, commented: “There are a number of cutting edge creative arts entrepreneurs working in the Highlands and Islands. Many are inspired by their surroundings to create unique, high quality work and what HIE aims to do is help these people find the best ways into the market place.

“It is really useful to have a fashion community which supports and encourages individuals and businesses. Henrietta is a shining example of what can be achieved. She is able to work locally and can sell in places like Paris, London and Glasgow.”
