Media Release: Sir Ian Wood to receive the prestigious Cadman Award in Aberdeen

SIR Ian Wood is to receive the Energy Institute’s prestigious Cadman Award, presented internationally for outstanding service to the petroleum industry, at a dinner in Aberdeen this week.

Traditionally, the award has been gifted during Energy Institute events in London, but is being bestowed in his home city at the request of Sir Ian, chair of energy services giant, the Wood Group.

The presentation brings a focus on the Aberdeen, Highlands and Islands branch of the Energy Institute’s annual gathering, organised by Trinity International Services, which attracts industry leaders from across the UK and further afield to the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on February 25.

Matt Simmons, chair of Houston-based private investment bank, Simmons & Company International, and a past energy advisor to former US President, George W Bush, and renowned former solicitor and legal advisor, Len Murray, will also speak at the event.

The Cadman Award was created by the Cadman Memorial Fund to commemorate the late Lord Cadman of Silverdale, chair of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP) and past-president of the Energy Institute.

James Smith, country chair for award sponsors, Shell, and president of the Energy Institute, will travel to the Granite City to present the award.

Denis Pinto, MEI, chair of the Energy Institute branch in the region, says: “This is a significant date in the event calendar for the energy industry throughout the North East of Scotland, and even more so this year as the Cadman Medal travels to the region for the first time.

“We are delighted that Sir Ian Wood has chosen to receive the honour at home, still renowned as the oil capital of Europe and one of the best places to do business in the UK.

“The calibre of our speakers matches the importance of the occasion, and we look forward to hearing from both Sir Ian and Matt Simmons, who has worked at the very highest level in the US, as a Presidential advisor and his insight should be invaluable.”

Stuart MacBride, chair of Trinity International Services, says: “We have the honour of organising and facilitating the annual Energy Institute dinner here in the oil capital of Europe on an annual basis.

“Our staff put in a great deal of time and effort to ensure the event is a success, and we look forward to the added focus the gathering will receive this year, thanks to Sir Ian Wood’s request that the Cadman Award be bestowed in his home city.

“The Aberdeen branch of the Energy Institute is a vibrant part of the global organisation, as the city and north-east of Scotland play a massive part in the continuing development of the oil and gas exploration and production industry.”
