Media Release: Stevenson College students reach finals of hairdressing awards

TWO, first-year SVQ Hairdressing students at Stevenson College Edinburgh have secured a place in the UK finals of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists Trainee Competition, at Blackpool Winter Gardens on 21 and 22 of March.

The Scottish heat was held at Coatbridge High where Emmalyn Flordiliz won Gold for Ladies Evening style and Claire Binnie won Silver for Ladies Progressive/Avantgarde.

The awards were based on visual effect and the creative ability of the competitor.

Rosalyn Allan, senior lecturer, Hair & Beauty at Stevenson College, said: “We are delighted our students will represent Scotland at such a prestigious event. This competition will not only test their creative abilities but also how they work under pressure. It’s a great experience for our students who will be competing with the best from the UK.”

Seven areas in the UK will be represented with 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners of the heats winning a place at the UK competition.

The SCE Salon at Stevenson College Edinburgh is also open to the public during term time, including some evenings, for low cost hair, beauty and complementary therapy treatments, which range from haircut and colour, facials, leg waxing, make up and manicures to aromatherapy and reflexology.
