Media Release: Former Scotland captain, Craig Wright, joins Watsonians

Former Scotland captain Craig Wright joins Watsonians
Craig Wright, the ex-captain of the Scotland cricket team, has joined Watsonian CC for the 2010 season.
The capture of Scotland’s most capped player from Greenock is a major coup for the Myreside club and augments their previous signings of pro Tim Weston, Stuart Chalmers and Paddy Sadler ahead of the SNCL Premier Division season opener on May 1.
The 35-year-old all-rounder – who retired from international cricket last June after 194 appearances for Scotland – had a number of offers over the winter, but decided on Watsonians.
He returned earlier this week from India where he was coaching the Scottish Academy squad who were on a short-term tour.
On his return he said: “My rationale for leaving Greenock was not that I wasn’t enjoying my cricket, but I wanted to play closer to my home in Edinburgh. I had a number of options available to me, but Watsonians was the most appealing as the club is headed up by enthusiastic and driven people who are helping to take the club forward.
“At this stage of my career I needed something that would motivate me and these are exciting times at Watsonians. I am looking forward to helping their crop of youngsters improve as well as helping some of the older heads with the coaching side of things as well as adding something myself on the playing front.”
Watsonians president Ross Brooks said: “I’m delighted that Craig has chosen to become part of what we are building at Myreside, he is without doubt one of the most experienced players in the Scottish game and he certainly brings a winning mentality to the table.
“We have a young and ambitious squad who can only learn and develop as cricketers from having the opportunity to train and play alongside someone like him.”
