Media Release: Don’t miss out on ScottishPower Story Swap Shop

THERE’S still time for Scottish pupils to sign up for a ScottishPower reading challenge to help the environment and bag their school a fantastic prize.

To stand a chance of winning an exclusive visit by a popular children’s author, all you need to do is register for the ScottishPower Story Swap Shop before the deadline of Friday May 14th.

Already, schools across the country have signed up to take part in the initiative which encourages youngsters to recycle books with their friends.

This is the second year that ScottishPower has organised the joint venture with the Edinburgh International Book Festival and Friends of the Earth Scotland.

ScottishPower group sponsorships manager, Heather McDonald, said:

“Last year’s winners the Community School of Auchterardar really enjoyed taking part in this initiative. It’s a fun way for youngsters to swap their old books with their classmates and raise money for environmental projects at the same time.

“The pupils and their teachers had a great time taking part in the swap shop and also loved their visit from author Andy Stanton – it’s really a fantastic prize to have an author of someone like Andy’s calibre come and spend so much time with young fans.

“Taking part in the Swap Shop will give other young readers a chance to experience an opportunity like that and we really hope they don’t miss their chance.”

All schools have to do to take part in the competition is to hold a book swap before the end of summer term with pupils donating 50p for every book they want to swap.

The money raised will go to Friends of the Earth Scotland, which works to promote energy saving and waste reduction.

Every school which enters the ScottishPower Story Swap Shop will stand a chance of winning a visit from an author who will be part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
