Media Release: Stevenson College students win Pit Stop Challenge for second time

STUDENTS of Motor Vehicle at Stevenson College Edinburgh have again won the final of the Pit Stop Challenge competition at the Scottish Motorfair held last weekend.

The Stevenson team won the competition in 2008 when the competition was last run and, this year, two teams of six students qualified from the heats to go into the final.

Says a spokesperson: “The challenge was to find the fastest wheel changing team of young people following automotive training courses, with 14 teams taking part from colleges all over Scotland.”

Les Dyer, head of Motor Vehicle at Stevenson College, said: “We are delighted to again win the finals of the Pit Stop Challenge competition. The competition was tough but we even beat our own record with a wheel change of just 36.03 seconds. I’m very proud of what the students have achieved. They have worked hard and deserve this recognition.”

The spokesperson continued: The seventh Scottish Motorfair, the official Scottish Motorshow attracted over 20,000 visitors with excellent weather, live and interactive activities, displays and demonstrations and this year includes the appearance of a 200mph Formula One car, GT cars, Bikes and World Sidecars blasting round the famous track as well as a 700bhp Ford Focus and a 180mph VW Beetle.

“All the latest models were on show by a host of manufacturers with on track test drives were available throughout the weekend.”
