Media Release: Go greener ticket discounts for Big Tent

FAMILIES planning to visit this year’s Big Tent Festival now have the chance to get up to 20 per cent off their tickets by pledging to reduce their carbon emissions en route to this year’s event.

In a drive to encourage more sustainable travel and less carbon emissions, Big Tent has teamed up with its friends at the 10:10 campaign and is working hard to reduce its festival emissions this year. As part of this it wants to help families go greener, whilst saving them money on a fantastic weekend break at the same time.

Two green incentives are available online.

With Option 1, people pledge to reduce their carbon emissions by ten per cent and with Option 2, they commit to going even further. In return, they will receive a special voucher code to receive ten-to-20 per cent off tickets. With both options, people will receive a free year-long membership for Friends of Falkland’s Heritage.

Helen Lawrenson, centre director, Falkland Centre for Stewardship, said: “The Big Tent is more than a great three-day summer festival. It is also the centrepiece of Falkland Centre for Stewardship’s work for a greener, fairer world.

“Become a Big Tent champion and we’ll take you on a year-long journey of discovery with ‘pick, grow and eat’ events, money-off goody bags from leading companies, ‘Live Well’ toolkits for you and your community, and support to spread the word beyond ‘the usual suspects’.”

She added:”We are a green festival and if you are badged green too, by taking part in our greener incentives scheme you can relax in the knowledge that are making a difference to the environment whilst getting great value tickets for a family weekend away that has loads to offer.

“Last year, Big Tent sold out, and I’d encourage people to book their tickets in advance to take advantage of the ticket discounts and to book their place at Scotland’s environmental festival.”

10:10 is an ambitious project aimed at uniting people behind one simple idea: that by working together we can achieve a ten per cent cut in the UK’s carbon emissions in 2010. It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of a huge problem like climate change, but by bringing individual actions together under one banner, 10:10 enables everyone to make a meaningful difference.

Being green isn’t only about the way we live, but also the way we travel and the organisers of this year’s Big Tent Festival have worked together with their supporting partners to offer sustainable methods of travel, to and from the event. Full details, including a complete timetable of the free bus network, are now live on the Big Tent website.

This year is Big Tent’s fifth anniversary and promises to be even bigger and better than ever, with an extended and exciting programme of activities and entertainment now running over three days, from 6pm on Friday 23rd until 9pm on Sunday 25th July.

Showcasing some of the biggest and best local and international music, the festival will include performances from King Creosote, Aberfeldy, FOUND, The Zawose Family and Grammy-award winning singer and songwriter Rosanne Cash.

There will also be children’s entertainment, lively debates, films, poetic recitations, alternative therapies, traditional arts and crafts workshops, a string heritage theme, cookery demonstrations and great food and drink.
