Media Release: Business lecture to outline the power of branding

THE importance of a business’s brand in developing new markets will be the topic of a public lecture held in Inverness on Friday of next week (June 24).

Dr Sean Ennis from Strathclyde Business School will be the speaker at the fourth of a series of eight high-profile lectures organised this year by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

The event with Dr Ennis is being co-sponsored by UHI HI Links, a free service helping companies in the Highlands and Islands to develop business ideas in collaboration with Scotland’s academic experts, and part of the prospective University of the Highlands and Islands.

The lecture, entitled ‘Right Brand, New Markets’, will be held at the Centre for Health Science auditorium between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

Dr Ennis will be discussing how small firms in the Highlands and Islands can access new markets, with a particular focus on the crucial role that branding plays in the process.

His main research and teaching interests lie in entrepreneurial marketing, supply chain management, retail marketing and more recently sports marketing.

He is a Visiting Professor to the University Ca Foscari in Venice and has a special interest in brand development, particularly in the context of SMEs.

Martin Johnson, HIE’s area manager for the Inner Moray Firth, said: “HIE works with businesses to expand their markets worldwide. In this competitive arena, effective branding is absolutely essential for success. We are particularly fortunate to be hosting a speaker of Dr Ennis’ calibre in this field.”

Previous speakers in this lecture series have included David Blanchflower, a former member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee and leading Scottish economist, David Bell.

Anyone wishing to attend the lecture is asked to contact Barbara Isaacs by email at barbara.isaacs@hient.co.uk or to call 01349 868381. Refreshments and networking opportunities will be provided after the lecture.
