Media Release: Quiz night raises cash for kids

TEAMS from across the North-east who recently put their general knowledge to the test in a charity quiz have raised almost £1,000 for local disadvantaged children.

The Cash for Kids quiz night, which was held at the Inn at the Park on Thursday, June 10, was hosted by Northsound 2 DJ, John McRuvie.

The 25 teams involved raised a total of £976.

The winning team was from Northsound radio’s news team, who were closely followed by a team from Swire Oilfield Services.

The event was organised by Michelle Herd, Cash for Kids charity manager, who said: “The annual Cash for Kids quiz night was a huge success and all who took part had a great evening and we are really pleased with the total figure raised, which will help us to support individual children and groups here in the North-east.

“We are assured by the Northsound news team that there were no underhand tactics used in securing the win and our quizmaster for the evening, Alan Miller, has checked and rechecked the scores just to be sure!

“A big thanks to all the teams who entered and we look forward to seeing you at the next one.”

Cash for Kids, Northsound’s listener charity, was set up to make grants towards individual youngsters as well as children’s groups, organisations and projects throughout the North-east. Each year, it aims to raise £200,000.

All the money is raised and spent locally and goes to children who suffer from mental, physical or sensory disabilities; behavioural or psychological disorders; distress, abuse or neglect, or who are living in poverty or deprivation.
