THE AEGON Awards for June have been presented to Andy Murray, James Marsalek and Toby Smith.
Says a spokesperson: “The monthly awards are given out in three separate categories: Player, Junior Player and Coach.”
Player of the Month
Andy Murray has been awarded the AEGON Player of the Month award for June after reaching the semi-finals of the men’s singles at The Championships, Wimbledon.
The British No. 1 equalled his best ever showing on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club as a semi-finalist for the second successive year.
The world No.4 breezed into the quarter-finals and became the only player at that stage of the tournament not to have dropped a set.
Murray then completed an impressive win over top ten player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last eight, before falling to world No. 1 and eventual winner Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
Junior Player of the Month
James Marsalek has been awarded the Junior Player of the Month award after winning the AEGON Junior International and reaching the third round of Junior Wimbledon.
The 18 year-old from Taunton has enjoyed the grass court season, winning the ITF Grade 1 event in Roehampton and following this up with some great victories at Junior Wimbledon, including a straight sets win over the junior world No. 2 and French Open champion.
On winning the AEGON Junior International title, Marsalek became the first British player to win the event and joined former winners, Marin Cilic, Gael Monfils, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Mario Ancic.
Marsalek is now the British Junior No. 4 and at a career high junior world ranking of 66 and will now turn his attentions to men’s tournaments in the summer season ahead of the Junior US Open in September.
Coach of the Month
The AEGON Coach of the Month award for June has gone to Toby Smith, from David Lloyd West End in Glasgow.
