Media Release: Local hero’s triumph at awards

A kIND-hearted Stirling resident has been recognised for his fundraising efforts within the community at a unique awards ceremony.

Colin Logan, who has embarked on a challenging fundraising initiative for leading cancer charity CLIC Sargent, was honoured a ‘People to be Proud of’ award, run by Hull-based food company, William Jackson Food Group (WJFG).

The awards, which are in their tenth year, recognise and celebrate the activities or achievements of staff, which have brought significant benefit to the wider community.

Colin’s fundraising extravaganza, was via ’70 Wild Miles’ Event, raising much-needed cash for the charity after Colin’s nephew, Bruce Logan, was diagnosed with leukaemia 18 months ago.

On 5th June, Colin undertook cycling 47 gruelling miles from Glencoe down to Loch Etive, and then canoed a further ten miles along the sea loch before the final 13-mile run back up to Glencoe.

In between the hours, he plans on committing to the fundraising project, Colin’s day job is business sales manager at frozen foods firm Aunt Bessie’s, which is owned by WJFG, along with Jackson’s Bakery, Parripak and Hazeldene.

Colin, who was delighted to collect his award at a dedicated WJFG event, held at the Beverley Racecourse in Yorkshire on Friday night, said: “I’m really pleased to have been given this award.

“Cancer is something that unfortunately affects so many of our lives and this is my way of trying to give something back to such an important charity, which has provided my family with a lot of support over the past 18 months. I have great appreciation for the many people who have generously helped to raise my cash goal of £2,000 and are still donating.”

“Bruce is now a third of the way through his three year plus programme of chemotherapy treatment and thankfully he is responding well to this. We’d like to thank all staff at CLIC Sargent for their support to date and hope we can present them with a chunky cheque in due course!”

Colin, who was nominated for the award by colleague Ian Hunt, received a commemorative certificate together with £300 and an invitation to Friday night’s Beverley Races, which was sponsored by the WJFG, as acknowledgement of his achievement.

Nicholas Oughtred, chair of WJFG, who presented Colin with his award, said:

“The People to be Proud of awards recognise and celebrate the activities or achievements of colleagues who have brought significant benefit to the wider community. These awards reflect the good that they have done and our pride in them as individuals. They are indeed ‘people to be proud of’.

“We are really proud of Colin’s fundraising efforts and his achievement in the ’70 Wild Miles’ challenge. Aunt Bessie’s will of course be contributing to his fund and we encourage as many of our staff as possible to donate to such a worthy cause.”

Colin has worked for Aunt Bessie’s for over two years and currently lives with family in Gargunnock.
