Media Release: Vittoria’s three-course helping of comedy, drama and music

CUSTOMETS at Vittoria on the Walk can experience dining with a difference at this year’s Edinburgh festival and choose a side order of theatre with their three course meal.

As part of Vittoria’s 40th birthday celebrations, the party room at Vittoria will be transformed into an eighteenth century Florentine Inn, providing the setting for Italy’s most celebrated comedy, La Locandiera.

Based around Goldini’s classic Italian comedy, the performance by Wonderland Productions, tells the story of the seductress Mirandolina who has every man in Italy at her feet until the arrival of The Ulster Gentleman – sworn enemy of Italian women.

What follows then is a comical and entertaining love chase in which Mirandolina strives to make him fall in love with her and he resist her charms. Who will win? The misogynistic male or the seductive female?

The performance has had sell out runs across Ireland and provides its audience with a tasty twist – every ticket purchased includes either a three course dinner or two course lunch, from Vittoria’s renowned chefs.

The set menu includes a selection of Mirandolina’s ‘secret recipes made by hands that know how to do magical things’ – traditional Italian food with a magical theatrical twist.

Tony Crolla, owner of Vittoria, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Vittoria.  La Locandiera is an excellent play and one of the most revered in Italy, so it’s fitting our traditional Italian restaurant provides the setting for the performance.

“The Edinburgh festival is also one of the biggest events of year bringing visitors from all over the world to the city centre and also providing benefits for local business.

“All of us at Vittoria are delighted to be involved in this year’s festival and are particularly looking forward too seeing some live theatre in our very own restaurant and workplace.

“Theatre lovers and also food lovers should definitely come along and see the show; it’s a great way to spend the evening and is the perfect night out for families, couples and groups.”

Sara Cregan, producer of La Locandiera, says: “It is an integral part of the show to perform it in a restaurant and what better place when trying to find a suitable Italian restaurant, than the best place in Edinburgh.

“Tony has been fantastic so far and he and his staff are enthusiastic about the performance, helping us beyond the required with all of our needs.”

Diners can chose from lunch time or dinner time performances at the cost of £29.50 and £39.50 respectively.

La Locandiera will run from August 4-31 and dinnertime showings will start from 8.30pm Monday to Sunday and lunchtime showings will start from 13.30 Friday to Sunday.  The performance lasts for 2 hours 15 minutes.
