Media Release: St. Enoch Working recruitment fair will deliver a major jobs boost for Glasgow

HUNDREDS of new retail jobs are in store for Glasgow as a special recruitment fair in St. Enoch Centre unveils a range of new posts on 2nd – 3rd September.

The St. Enoch Working recruitment fair will make 250 jobs available to Glasgow’s jobhunters with vacancies being announced for a wide variety of popular St. Enoch retailers including Hamleys, Debenhams, Game, Bhs and H&M.

St. Enoch Working aims to help jobseekers open the door to a world of new work and training opportunities, and assist many of the city’s employers in finding the ideal candidates for their vacancies.

Last year’s fair attracted scores of jobseekers with over 3,000 people registering their interest and this year’s two-day event is expected to be just as successful with a range of seasonal and permanent opportunities on offer.

The recruitment fair will be based in front of Bhs on the first floor of the Centre, from 12noon – 7pm on Thursday 2nd September and 11am – 4pm on Friday 3rd September, with a range of stands providing employer information.

Jobhunters are asked to visit the St. Enoch Working shop unit on the upper level of the Centre prior to the event in order to sign up to the initiative and receive application forms for the new posts.

Those who aren’t able to attend the fair on either of the two days can register online at www.stenochworking.com or visit the unit between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday before or after the event or on Saturday 4th September from 11am – 3pm for information about the positions.

St. Enoch Working, now celebrating its first anniversary, is a partnership between St. Enoch Centre, Glasgow’s Regeneration Agencies, Glasgow Works, Jobcentre Plus and Skills Development Scotland.

Susan Nicol, general manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: “St. Enoch Working is continuing to bring new work and training opportunities to Glasgow which is of great importance in the current economic climate.

“St. Enoch Centre is dedicated to supporting the local community and the transformation of the Centre has brought lots of new prospects to the people of Glasgow. The turnout at last year’s fair was excellent with over 250 jobs being filled through St. Enoch Working since September 2009.

“We hope that this year even more of Glasgow’s jobhunters register their interest with St. Enoch Working and take full advantage of the skills and employment options this service provides.”

Calum Graham, chief executive of Glasgow West Regeneration Agency, who manages the project, stated: “Last year’s recruitment fair was a huge success in terms of interest and this year we have improved on the model and involved a range of St Enoch Retailers. Thanks to support from our partners in Jobcentre Plus and Glasgow Works we are confident that the 2010 Fair will bring results for all involved.”
