Media Release: Big knit is music to Shelter Scotland’s ears

SHELTER Scotland is delighted that Perthshire Amber – The Dougie MacLean Festival is repeating its Big Knit again this year.

Last year, people at the festival and across the globe got their knitting needles out to help raise £2,000 for Shelter Scotland.

This year, it is set to be even bigger as Dolly MacLean, the mother of music legend, Dougie MacLean, leads the way for hundreds of knitting enthusiasts.

Graeme Brown, director, Shelter Scotland, housing and homelessness charity, said:

“We really appreciate the support of everyone taking part in the Big Knit and would like to thank Dolly MacLean and her family for organising it again.

“The funds raised will go towards Shelter Scotland’s work to help people keep a roof over their heads.”

Jenny MacLean, director of the Perthshire Amber Festival, said:

“We are very proud to support Shelter Scotland’s important work.”

“It is very exciting to think that people all over the world are knitting squares to make up the Shelter Scotland blanket.

“Not only is it great fun but knitters are supporting a very worthwhile charity and contributing to making a beautiful blanket.

“For knitters who want to get involved and can’t come to the festival, all they have to do is to get hold of some Artesano wool and knit a six inch square in one of the approved blanket colours, and then send it off to the Festival.

“They can also send in a photograph of them knitting their square or in a location typical of their home.

“Send an email to admin@butterstone.com to let us know what colour you are knitting and keep an eye on the website in case we have a need for particular colours.”

Full instructions for taking part in the Big Knit are available on the website: www.perthshireamber.com.
