Media Release: BT representatives visit homes in Edinburgh and Glasgow to talk about super-fast broadband

BT representatives are visiting homes in Edinburgh and Glasgow from next week to talk about the new super-fast broadband service, BT Infinity.

The two cities are among the first communities in the UK to benefit from BT’s £2.5 billion investment in super-fast fibre-based broadband and the launch of BT Infinity.

In Edinburgh, the service is available in three exchange areas – Dean, covering parts of Stockbridge and the New Town, Craiglockhart and Corstorphine. In Glasgow it can be accessed in parts of Hillington, Cardonald, Crookston, Giffnock, Bridgeton and the west end of the city.

The new technology delivers super-fast upload and download speeds many times quicker than those previously available to most householders.

The representatives always wear BT clothing, carry photographic identification cards and will give a number for householders wishing to confirm that the caller is bona fide.

Libby Barr, BT director of consumer sales, said:The new super-fast broadband service, BT Infinity, is an industry-leading product and we are keen to explain the benefits to potential and existing BT customers and to answer any questions.

“Our representatives follow a strict code of conduct ensuring that visits take place no later than 8pm on a weekday evening and no later than 4pm on a Saturday. No calls will be made on Sundays. They liaise with the police and other local organisations, follow any local guidelines on doorstep calling and respect any No Cold Calling Zones.

“Of course, the representatives will also be very willing to take away any other issues or questions about BT services and arrange for a full reply.”

BT Infinity’s super-fast speeds of up to 40 Mb/s are more than enough to run multiple bandwidth-hungry applications at the same time. For example, some members of a family could be streaming different high definition (HD) movies, while others are gaming online or uploading photos and videos.  Music tracks can be downloaded in less than five seconds.
