Media Release: Firm quizzes small business bosses

A SCOTS company has launched an in-depth survey to establish the health of the country’s small businesses.

Says a spokesperson: “UNIQ – The Academy for Entrepreneurs, which advises start-up companies and SMEs on marketing, sales and operations, fear that many new businesses are floundering because they’re not given proper advice.

“The firm says many start-up bosses may be strong in their own disciplines but struggle when it comes to some of the many skills required to run a company.

“UNIQ believes that only by gaining a true picture of the problems facing fledgling businesses can advice agencies provide them with the help they really need.”

Says UNIQ co-founder, Ruth McKay, the vice-chair of the Edinburgh branch of the Federation of Small Businesses: “It’s sad that many new businesses fail not because their owners are bad at their core skills but because they are weak on things like marketing and sales.

“We want to find of what really makes mall businesses tick and what really gets up their noses.”
