Media Release: Darius Campbell revisits his roots with young Scottish opera singers

SINGING star, Darius Campbell, is to pass on some pearls of professional performing wisdom to Scottish Opera’s Connect singers, ahead of their professional opera debut.

Darius sang with Scottish Opera as a teenager, appearing in Les Troyens with the Scottish Opera Children’s Chorus and the company’s production of Carmen at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

Darius also won reality TV hit Popstar to Operastar, and appeared in Carmen with the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra at London’s O2 arena.

He is a critically-acclaimed West End actor, and platinum-selling recording artist, and is currently leading a stellar cast in Snow White at The King’s Theatre in Glasgow.

Scottish Opera Connect is a group of 40 young singers aged between 14 and 21, who work with members of Scottish Opera’s creative team to develop their performance skills.

In early 2011, the Connect group will sing in a family double bill of operas being staged by Scottish Opera and the Citizens Theatre.

Darius will take part in a question-and-answer session about his career with the Connect group, and will tell them how he went from opera star, to pop star, and back again, as well as giving the young performers hints and tips on maintaining a successful professional career.

You are invited to send a reporter/photographer to the session at 39 Elmbank Crescent, Glasgow, G2 4PT on Tuesday 21 December, at 3.45pm.

To confirm your attendance please email or call (0141) 242 0552.
