Media Release: Glasgow Talks relaunches for 2011

CLASGOW Chamber is to re-launch its Glasgow Talks programme for 2011 – with Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore, Jim McColl OBE, chair Clyde Blowers Capital, Aggreko chief executive Rupert Soames OBE, and City Refrigeration chair Willie Haughey OBE already confirmed to headline the first events.

Begins a spokesperson: “The Chamber originally created Glasgow Talks, a strategic access and influencers programme, in 2004 to directly engage local and national politicians, business decision makers and commentators on the key issues affecting the city.

“Having recently re-branded, the Chamber has re-developed the programme, which will now also include themed events, and has welcomed on board new supporters, Clydesdale Bank and the University of Glasgow.”

Glasgow Chamber chief executive, Stuart Patrick, said: “At the Chamber we are aware of the key role that we play in working with politicians and other key public agencies to influence and shape the economic and business agenda of the city and the west of Scotland.

“We are pleased to be re-launching Glasgow Talks with Clydesdale Bank and the University of Glasgow and I would encourage all businesses to make the most of these opportunities to put the issues important to their company directly to these key decision-makers, and to ensure we work together to maximise the value of these events to influence the economic agenda of Scotland.”

Scott McKerracher, regional director for Clydesdale Bank in Scotland, said:

“Maintaining and enhancing Clydesdale Bank’s already strong links with Scotland’s business community is a key element of our activity.

“We are delighted to be supporting the Glasgow Talks programme. This is an excellent initiative which will provide the city’s business people with extremely valuable access to high level decision-makers and leading figures from Scotland and the UK’s political and business arenas.”

Glasgow Talks will re-launch with Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore in Glasgow’s Blythswood Square Hotel on Monday 24 January.

The other confirmed events include Jim McColl on Wednesday 9 February, Rupert Soames on Thursday 17 March and Willie Haughey on Tuesday 10 May.
