Media Release: Scottish bakery is revealed as Go Local Champion in nationwide competition

FISHER and Donaldson Bakery in Fife has been named as the winner of the ‘Best Local Shop’ award in a nationwide competition by UK holiday lettings agency, cottages4you, to find Britain’s best local gems.

Cottages4you has published a ‘Go Local’ guide, championing independent businesses which help make people’s holidays memorable.

The guide is a collection of customer recommendations of places to go, things to do and places to eat and drink whilst on holiday or at home in their local town.

Fisher and Donaldson Bakery, a fourth-generation family bakery in Cupar, Fife,  was revealed as a ‘Go Local Champion’ after cottages4you encouraged holidaymakers and locals to nominate businesses that go above and beyond for their customers.

The craft bakery, which produces over 400 handcrafted and traditional continental and Scottish bakery products every morning, was also visited by a cottages4you ‘mystery shopper’ as part of the tough judging criteria.

Mark Palmer, travel editor at the Daily Mail, and Go Local judge, said: “Fisher and Donaldson Bakery stood out as a clear winner in their category, combining a broad range of traditional Scottish and continental products.

“The bakery has been listed as one of the 100 things to do before you die – and after sampling several of their delicious home-made cakes and pastries it’s not hard to see why!”

Congratulating Fisher & Donaldson Bakery on their award, Scottish Bakers chief executive, Alan Clarke, said: “This is a fantastic accolade for Fisher & Donaldson to win and highlights the important role that craft bakeries fulfil in their local communities as ambassadors of quality and fine food.”

Fisher and Donaldson Bakery has been presented with a £1,000 grant by cottages4you to help further develop the enterprise and continue to encourage people to enjoy the British delights on their doorstep.
