Media Release: St John’s Shopping Centre opens up its community chest

ST John’s Shopping Centre has today announced a move to open up its coffers to worthy local community projects.

Entitled ‘Community Chest’, the shopping centre has set aside £5,000 for requests from the local community during 2011, which they hope will help local groups and projects.

Community Chest, which launches to the public this Saturday in St John’s Shopping Centre, has been designed to be accessible and offer small funding opportunities for those local community groups and projects who may find lottery grant systems too time onerous or who may be looking for smaller amounts of money to make their projects come to life.

Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager, commented: “Every year we get a number of requests from small groups looking for kit sponsorship, or to advertise in their event or show programme so it made sense to us to create a way for small community groups or projects to access much-needed funds to ensure their continued success.

“This is a great opportunity for St John’s Shopping Centre to make a real and tangible difference to the community we live in and we’re very excited about it.”

Community Chest Awards will be made on three separate occasions during 2011, and requests must be between the value of £100 and £750.

The first deadline for submission is 31st March 2011.
