Media Release: Get active and run Baxters Loch Ness Marathon in tenth anniversary year

IN the tenth anniversary year of the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, organisers are calling on everyone considering a long distance run this year to sign up for the event in 2011.

In the Year of Active Scotland, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running on Sunday 2 October 2011 is a great opportunity for all ages and abilities to take part in a running event.

To mark this special tenth anniversary year, runners intending to participate in the 2011 Marathon, and who have completed all previous nine Loch Ness Marathons, are invited to register for an unique memento to be awarded at the finish of the 2011 run.

Malcolm Sutherland, race director of Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running, said: “We would like all runners who have finished all nine Loch Ness Marathons to get in touch with us and let us know, so as we can invite them to join our anniversary celebrations at the event on 2 October – we know there are a few of you out there!

“The Loch Ness Marathon is a favourite with people across the UK and beyond and we are looking forward to welcoming runners old and new to this year’s event.

“It’s only ten weeks until general entry closes for the marathon and I would encourage everyone thinking of running to visit www.lochnessmarathon.com now to be sure of a place.”

Entry is now open for the 2011 Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, River Ness 10K, 10K Corporate Challenge and 5K Fun Run taking place on Sunday 2 October.

Entry is guaranteed for all marathon runners until 1 May or sooner if race limit reached; charity and club runner places will be available after this date. Visit www.lochnessmarathon.com now to book your place.

Bill King, chief executive officer of Baxters, said: ““We are delighted to sponsor Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running for the tenth year and look forward to sharing in this year’s anniversary celebrations.

“With healthy eating and fitness going hand in hand, Baxters is proud to support this high profile event which promotes an active lifestyle and a healthy balanced diet.”

Paul Bush OBE, chief operating officer at EventScotland, the national events agency, said: “Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running is an exciting event which has encouraged and inspired the people of Scotland and its visitors to get active for a decade now.

“With 2011 being Scotland’s Year of Active, we’re delighted to see that the event is once again promoting the benefits of an energetic and healthy lifestyle.

“Taking in some of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes, it’s a fantastic example of why Scotland is the perfect stage for the biggest and best active events.”
