Media Release: The Scottish Bike Show – Scotland’s first consumer bike show

THE Scottish Bike Show 2011 is being staged at the SECC, Glasgow, on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April and anticipation and excitement for Scotland’s first consumer bike show is building.

For the first time ever, the country’s growing cycling community – road, mountain bike, street trials, BMX and leisure riders and commuters – will have an all encompassing cycle show on their door step.

With hundreds of brands selling bikes, gear and accessories, a central arena hosting jaw dropping bmx and trials stunt displays, have-a-go bike test sessions and cycling organisations offering expert advice there will be something for everyone; from hardened enthusiasts to families and the curious new comer.

Organiser, Rowan Mackie, from Magdala Media, said: “The Scottish Bike Show is the first cycle show aimed at cyclists of all disciplines and skill levels to be staged in Scotland.

“I have been blown away by just how supportive Scotland’s cycling community has been in getting behind this new, exciting and interactive event. With all things two wheeled under one roof it is shaping up to be a spectacular showcase for Scottish cycling.”

The Scottish Bike Show will not only showcase cycling brands, bike manufacturers, independent retailers, distributors and magazines, it will also promote Scotland’s growing cycle leisure and active tourism industry.

Cycling holiday and activity providers, representatives from mountain bike trail centres and mountain bike coaching and guiding companies and organisers of open mass participation bike races and bike festivals will be also be exhibiting.

The action-packed programme of interactive events will include the BSD BMX stunt team who will amaze visitors with the craziest stunts and tricks and The 7stanes Display team who will show off (and sharing) their trials and mountain bike riding skills and techniques.

Tirol Austria will host the indoor forest track, ‘an all-in-one cycling experience allowing visitors to have a go at biking and experience some great trail features in a safe and fun environment’.

There will also be opportunities to test ride brand new bikes on a flat city style track.

Add to this the best gravity fueled action from the past nine years of the multi award winning Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup viewed on their massive 25 m2 screen; competitions and promotions to win bikes and cycling goodies; and a number of talks from leading authors on cycling and the Scottish Bike Show definitely has something for every member of the family!

There will also be expert cycling advice from a number of national and community cycling organisations, including the official cycling partner of the show, Scottish Cycling; Cycling Scotland, Sustrans, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and The Bike Station; all eager to promote their joint vision for Scotland to be a nation of cyclists, through leisure and competitive cycling and how the public can help to achieve this.

Rowan Mackie added: “The stands are filling up fast with high profile brands selling the latest bikes, cycling kit, accessories and innovations; the top-selling bike magazines; government funded cycling organisations; and some of Scotland’s top activity providers, trail centres and biking event organisers all signing up.

“We also have an action packed programme of events including The BSD BMX team and The 7stanes Display team who will be showing off with amazing stunts, tricks and techniques.

“Whether you’re a commuter, you ride on trail, track or road, or simply enjoy a bike ride at the weekend with your family and friends, The Scottish Bike Show is simply not to be missed.”

Organisers have partnered with two national charities for The Scottish Bike Show.

The Prostate Cancer Charity is the official charity partner and ten percent of ticket sales will be donated to the charity.

Breakthough Breast Cancer, a pioneering charity saving lives and changing futures through research, campaigning and education, will also have a strong presence at the show.

Tickets for The Scottish Bike Show are only £7.50 adults, £5.50 kids and £20 for a family of 4 ticket – 2 adults, 2 kids if you book online – http://www.ticketsoup.com/tickets/the-scottish-bike-show-2011-2011-12186/default.aspx
