Media Release: Stevenson College students nominated once again for national photography awards

THREE photography students from Stevenson College Edinburgh have been selected for the final of the AOP (Association of Photographers) Student Awards.

Paddy Henderson and Timea Porubszky are both studying Stevenson’s new BA Professional Photography course and Hamish Campbell is in his second year of the HND Photography course.

All three students have been nominated in the Portrait catagory.

Says a spokesperson: “The AOP Student Awards were established in 1981, to recognise and highlight the emerging photographic talent that existed in further education institutions across the UK.

“Nearly 30 years later, they have gone from strength to strength and are now regarded as one of the premiere photographic competitions for students around the UK, attracting over 3,500 entries every year.”

Many of the AOP Student Awards winners go on to become winners in the AOP Assistants Awards. Some progress even further to the AOP Photographers Awards.

There are four categories in the AOP Students Awards with single and series entries accepted. Those selected for the final exhibition not only get their images shown in the AOP Gallery for two weeks, but also feature in the Student Awards book.

Alan McEwan, head of Photography, Computing and Design at Stevenson College Edinburgh, said: “At Stevenson, we pride ourselves on nurturing talented photographers throughout their career.

“Our students have had to compete with every University in the UK for the AOP awards and, to have three students selected for this exhibition and book, is a fantastic achievement.”

The awards ceremony will take place on 23 March 2011 at the AOP Exhibition Centre in London.
