Media Release: Countdown to closing date for entries to tenth anniversary Baxters Loch Ness Marathon

ENTER the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon before midnight on Sunday 1 May 2011 to be sure of your place in this special tenth anniversary year of the event.

For the tenth anniversary, runners who will have crossed the finish line of all ten Baxters Loch Ness Marathons are invited to register with the organisers now for an unique memento to be awarded at the finish of the 2011 run.

As well as the Marathon, runners participating in the Festival on 2 October 2011 have the option of taking part in the Baxters River Ness 10K and the Baxters River Ness 5K Fun Run.

A team event, the HSBC 10K Corporate Challenge, is an opportunity for people who work together to build fitness – and fun! – into their daily routine as they train for the 10K.

And for younger pre-school age children, there is the Wee Nessie, to walk, run or toddle!

With a well-deserved reputation for excellent organisation – recently voted fourth-best UK marathon by Runners World – and a warm Scottish welcome for everyone, the Festival is a great event for all the family.

The tented Festival village around the stunning finish line beside the River Ness in Bught Park in the centre of Inverness, provides a focus for live music with a Highland flavour, together with a Highland Food and Drink Fayre, charity and sports retailer expo and kids activities. There is lots to do for runners and companions of all ages.

Malcolm Sutherland, event and race director of Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running, said: “On this tenth anniversary of the Marathon, we are looking forward to welcoming runners to the Highlands for the Festival of Running in October.

“Moving the location of the finish line closer to the city centre and next to the River Ness in Bught Park proved very popular with runners last year, adding to the atmosphere and excitement at the finish line.”

Although general entry for the Marathon closes at midnight on Sunday 1 May, places are still available for club, overseas and charity runners until 12 September 2011.

Entry for the Baxters River Ness 10K, the HSBC 10K Corporate Challenge and the Baxters River Ness 5K Fun Run is also open until 12 September or until race limit is reached, whichever is sooner.

Malcolm continued: “Marathon runners should be sure to book their place by 1 May for the tenth anniversary event.

“Entries are open for all other events in the Festival until 12 September; however, I’d advise everyone thinking of running to enter as soon as possible to be sure of a place.
