Media Release: NEL concludes showcase at Aberdeen

LEADING international technology services organisation, NEL, is in its final day of showcasing its expertise at All Energy, the annual UK renewables exhibition, today (Thursday, May 19).

The two-day event has seen NEL focus on new developments in energy storage technologies, small wind turbine development and testing of a range of technical due diligence services, making it well placed to advise on the latest innovations for the renewables sector.

Dr John Bingham, of NEL, comments: “NEL is a key independent service provider for all forms of clean and renewable energy and we are delighted to have showcased some of our latest projects within the sector at the event.

“We recently commissioned a study of candidate energy storage technologies after we recognised the significant impact that large scale electrical energy storage could have on the UK grid.

“These findings could be implemented at the National Wind Energy Centre, where it is intended to establish an energy storage development and demonstration facility.

“Here we will explore novel strategies for energy storage in conjunction with wind power in an 11 kV test environment.

“Discussions with potential technology suppliers are under way and we are currently inviting expressions of interest for participation in a national consortium project from both system developers and end users.

“This is just one of our major projects in what is an exciting and rapidly changing period for renewables innovation.”

Other developments include recent studies on the performance of meters typically used to record the energy output from small wind turbines, the assessment of fall protection systems through a series of replicated ‘fall back’ tests using anthropometric dummies and measurement techniques, and the recent partnership with a number of European National Measurement Institutes for the measurement of physical and chemical parameters of liquid biofuels.
