Media Release: West End Medical Practice plans on view

NHS Lothian, in partnership with St Mary’s Cathedral and the West End Medical Practice, will hold a public information day for the local community, showing plans for the proposed, new West End Medical Practice premises.

The event will be held in the Chapter House at the cathedral on Friday 27 May, from 2pm-7pm.

Members of the local community will be able to view an exhibition display of proposed plans and will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss details informally with the project team and architects.

Robert Aitken, acting general manager, Edinburgh Community Health Partnership, NHS Lothian, said: “A great deal of work has been done already to reach this stage and we are delighted to be able to provide the latest information to the local community.

“We hope people will come along to find out more about the planned new building and have any queries they may have about the proposals answered.”

The Provost of St Mary’s Cathedral, The Very Revd Dr Graham Forbes CBE said: “St Mary’s is delighted to be taking part in this venture with NHS Lothian and the new medical centre will reinforce the cathedral’s ongoing vision of an even wider role in the community.”

Dean Pope, partner, West End Medical Practice said: “We are delighted to be working together with NHS Lothian and St Mary’s Cathedral and seeing the plans taking shape.

“This is potentially an exciting project which will produce an outstanding medical practice premises suitable for the delivery of modern healthcare services in the community.”

The proposed plans include relocating the existing West End Medical Practice from its current location in Chester Street to a purpose-built facility in the cathedral grounds and reprovision of the stonemasons’ workshop.
