Media Release: Caring for their employees’ financial wellbeing – with the help of Scotwest

ONE of Scotland’s largest credit unions, Scotwest Credit Union, has welcomed three new employers as the latest organisations to join its select employer group.

The addition of Doosan Power Systems, Steel Engineering and Blythswood Square Hotel takes the number of organisations across the west of Scotland offering its employee payroll scheme to over 80, giving over 130,000 employees easy access to Scotwest’s range of safe, competitive and fair financial services.

As well as having access to the credit union’s services, employees at all three organisations will have the opportunity to save directly from their wages each pay day.

Other employers already offering Scotwest as an employee benefit include all West of Scotland local authorities, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, and Scottish Water.

Rod Ashley, chief executive of Scotwest, said: “We are delighted to welcome our newest employers and look forward to providing a great service to all of their staff.

“Our payroll initiative really does help our members save for something special or even just for a rainy day. It also means that they are able to take out loans and repay them back straight from their wages.

“This method makes it easier for our members to manage their money, especially during these difficult economic times.”

Jennifer Ganson, HR manager from Blythswood Square Hotel, added: “We are committed to our staff and believe our partnership with Scotwest will be of great benefit to them, whether they are looking to save, make use of Scotwest’s competitive loan products or even move onto the property ladder with the help of a Scotwest mortgage.

“We look forward to developing our relationship with Scotwest over the coming months.”

Peter Breslin, director for Steel Engineering, added: “Scotwest is a great employee benefit for staff as it allows employees to get into the habit of saving straight from their wages.

“This is the first time we have offered the credit union to employees and already it seems to be a great option, encouraging people to start thinking about their finances.”
