SCOTLAND’S home-grown professional golfers will rise to the challenge over Colin Montgomerie’s first Scottish course design for the largest prize purse of the Tartan Tour so far this season.
This week (8 June – 9 June) the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) are holding a 36-hole Tartan Tour Order of Merit at the stunning new Rowallan Castle Golf Club near Kilmaurs in Ayrshire.
This is the first major Scottish event to be staged at the picturesque parkland course that is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best new courses in the country.
Michael MacDougall, PGA secretary of the Scottish Region said he was delighted that the Tartan Tour is being hosted at Rowallan.
He said: “I’m sure our professionals will thoroughly enjoy the venue. We have been down a couple of times to look over it and it has the potential to become one of the top courses in the country in the next few years. The number of entries we’ve had is testament to the reputation that Rowallan has already gained.”
Ross Aitken, PGA teaching professional at Rowallan Castle Golf Club, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase what we have here.
“I’m sure the players will be really impressed and I hope they’ll go back to their own clubs and recommend that their members give us a try.”
Players to watch out for include Greig Hutcheon, last year’s Order of Merit winner.
He has played in the last two European Tour in events, making the cut in both the Saab Wales Open and the BMW PGA Championship.
Set in 600 acres of one of Scotland’s most glorious country estates, the challenging 7,000-yard Rowallan Castle course designed by 2010 European Ryder Cup-winning captain, Colin Montgomerie, wends its way past two historic castles, and enjoys superb views of the famous islands of Ailsa Craig and Arran.
