Media Release: Support good causes by running in the tenth anniversary Baxters Loch Ness Marathon

RUNNERS are reminded that its not too late to sign up for a charity place in the tenth anniversary Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and help raise cash for good causes by taking part in the event on 2 October this year.

Last year, participants raised over £785,200 for charity. Marathon places are available in support of six nominated charities – Alzheimer Scotland, Breast Cancer Care, Erskine, Highland Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care – and over thirty associated charities.

Malcolm Sutherland, event and race director of Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running, said: “Runners still have time to sign up for a charity place knowing that the effort they put into training and running the event on the day will help to benefit others.

“To be sure of a place, I’d advise everyone thinking of entering to do so as soon as possible. This year is the tenth anniversary of the Marathon and we’d like to see as many runners as possible taking part and helping others through the event in 2011.”

Places in the Marathon also remain open for club and overseas runners. Entry is open for other Festival events including the Baxters River Ness 10K, the Baxters River Ness 5K Fun Run and the HSBC 10K Corporate Challenge.

The Baxters River Ness 10K follows a scenic route through the Highland capital. The flat course offers excellent potential for a fast time, making it popular with runners throughout the country.

The HSBC 10K Corporate Challenge is an opportunity for people who work together to enter teams of four to six colleagues, giving a focus to building fitness into their daily routine as they train for the event.

Malcolm added: “Supporters coming along to cheer runners will find a family-friendly occasion offering the excitement of watching runners from all events cross the finish line by the riverside in Bught Park, Inverness, together with lots of entertainment centred around the Event Village.

“There will be live music with a Highland flavour, the Baxters Food and Drink Fayre, a charity and sports expo and kids activities – there’s even the Wee Nessie event for budding athletes in the pre-school age group to walk or run!”

In this year of Active Scotland, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running on Sunday 2 October 2011 is a fabulous opportunity for all ages and abilities to take part in a running event.
