Media Release: Beatles Weekend destined for Dundee

DUNDEE may have just seen the demolition of high-rise landmarks but on Saturday, August 13, people will be looking to the sky for a very different reason.

At midday, Beatles’ band, Revolver, will be performing the classic Apple rooftop set to kick off the first Scottish Beatles Weekend.

Proceedings kick off the night before with Them Beatles at Duke’s Corner, but at 12 on Saturday, a huge crowd is anticipated on the lawn in front of the Queen Mother Building at Dundee University to watch Revolver, before they move on to Fat Sams, where Beatles bands from Scotland, England, France and the Netherlands will perform across two stages.

Says a spokesperson: “In venues across the city, there will also be a theatre piece from Dublin (Lennon v McCartney) talks including Ken McNab on his Beatles in Scotland book and exhibitions including the Michael Peto Beatles’ collection and, with the full patronage of Yoko Ono, the first appearance of much of John Lennon’s artwork in Scotland in The Art of John Lennon.”

Duke’s Corner will screen the Scottish premiere of Canadian Lennon film, ‘Let Him Be’, as well as other hosting other acts and events.

To round off the night, The Cavern Beatles will be the main headliners at Fat Sams Live.

Sunday is a more chilled-out affair with Psychedelic Sunday at Duke’s including acoustic sets, a sitar set from Polsitar and another chance to see acts you may have missed on Saturday.
