Media Release: Wings to sponsor specialist travel forum

WINGS Travel Management is the platinum sponsor of an unique travel event in Aberdeen next month.

The Oil, Gas, and Marine Travel Forum is being organised by the Global Business Travel Association who have created what is believed to be the world’s first business travel forum dedicated to the oil, gas and marine industry, after realising the need for an event dedicated to this interest group.

“We don’t think this type of event has ever been done before, not by an independent organisation,” said GBTA’s Paul Tilstone.

“You may have had the oil, gas and marine supplies running their own client events.

“The interest we’ve had in the forum has been phenomenal, because to our knowledge nobody had brought lots of different people together – suppliers and buyers – to look into the particular issues that affect people who manage travel in their sector.

“There are incredibly specific issues. You’ve only got to look at the substantial use of helicopters and the potential dangers of helicopter flights as one particular example.

“Or the mass movement of crews. On the issue of the locations of risk that they fly to and what happens if an airline is blacklisted because of its quality of provision for that route, but you don’t have any alternative.”

Wings Travel Management will formally open its Aberdeen branch office in Union Street to coincide with the forum. The company specialises in offshore, corporate and marine travel.

“The GBTA OGM forum in Aberdeen offers a unique opportunity for specialist travel management providers to the oil and gas industry to demonstrate clearly the advantage they can offer clients.

“There is now clear blue water between the specialist travel providers to the oil and gas sector and the travel services offered by general corporate travel management providers,” commented Wings CEO, Tony Sofianos.

“The clearest demonstration of this is the capability to provide owned expertise out of emerging oil and gas regions.

“This isn’t generally on the radar of wider corporate TMCs, but is a significant area of demand for the oil and gas industries.

“It’s a complex challenging environment to operate in and unless you are partnering with a specialist provider that understands and controls service delivery in the region, the pitfalls in terms of cost control, traveller security and programme co-ordination are serious. You can’t deliver secure and integrated services through loose partner affiliations in regions such as Africa.”

The forum is aimed at travel managers, travel management company staff, those responsible for crew movements, technology providers in the sector and supplier representatives in the sector such as air, rail, private charter, ship, ground transportation and accommodation.

Topics to be covered include”

• Can you really have an effective end-to-end expense solution for oil, gas and marine travel?

• How effective are buyers and suppliers on supplier security across aviation and ground security to traveller tracking?

• What difficulties do suppliers incur when managing oil, gas and marine travel expectations?

• Why do companies manage oil, gas and marine travel separately to regular business and what does it entail? As well as taking the lead sponsorship at the event, Wings will be opening and contributing to a number of the key conference sessions and at the same time hosting a number of private invitation only events around the exhibition.

Hosted by Wings Travel Management CEO, Tony Sofianos, events will include an interactive presentation on the challenges of procuring travel management services in the emerging African region over lunch on October 19 with Paulo Correira of Wings’ Angola office on hand to provide knowledge and guidance to travel managers.

Wings will also be hosting a celebratory launch party at its new Aberdeen office in the city’s Union Street on the evening of October 20 where again representatives from the company’s global officers will be available to answer any questions.
