Media Release: SDS supports food industry apprenticeships in West Lothian

VION’s multi-million pound commitment to Modern Apprenticeships demonstrates the model’s fundamental role in successful business planning, said Damien Yeates, chief executive of Skills Development Scotland, today (September 22).

Mr Yeates joined chief executive of West Lothian Council, Graham Hope, in warmly welcoming the international food firm’s plans to set up a Centre of Excellence at Broxburn, supported by the Scottish Government.

Skills Development Scotland is backing VION’s own £21m investment with a £.5m contribution towards apprenticeship training costs.

“VION is already a committed supporter of apprenticeships,” said Mr Yeates.

“Its plan to expand its involvement is a compelling endorsement of the Modern Apprenticeship model.

“We’re delighted to support their plans to employ and train people in West Lothian, giving staff the chance to get nationally recognised qualifications in a specialised skill.

“Today’s announcement will bring gains for VION, the individuals who work here and for the West Lothian economy.”
