Media Release: Charity soccer match in memory of stabbed schoolboy

A SCHOOL football team from Inverclyde Academy in Greenock is to play local stars, Morton, in a match in memory of one of their friends who died in an alleged stabbing incident.

Pals of Christopher Knox, 17, a pupil at the school, have organised the match to be held at the Academy on Wednesday, October 12, kickoff at 2pm, with money raised at the game going to Victim Support Scotland, the national charity dedicated to helping victims and witnesses of crime.

Inverclyde Academy head, Catherine Sorensen, said: “This has been very much a pupil-led idea with two friends of Chris’s – Grant Cameron and Ross Newman doing the organising.

“The boys saw at first-hand just how much Victim Support Scotland has done for Chris’s family and wanted to do something to raise money for the charity.

“They are both great Greenock Morton fans and approached the club for help and they have agreed to hold a memorial match of a Morton Select team against our Under-18s.”
