Media Release: Press and Journal’s Moray reporter named Highlands and Islands Journalist of the Year

DONNA MacAllister, chief reporter with the Press and Journal in Moray, has been named as Journalist of the Year for the Highlands and Islands.

Donna, who is based in Elgin, also won the Jim Love Memorial Trophy for being chosen as Reporter of the Year.

Donna’s successes were announced at the annual Highland and Islands Press Ball, which was held at the Newton Hotel, Nairn on Friday night. Donna’s colleague at the Press and Journal Elgin office, Kaye Nicolson, won the Alex Main Trophy for Young Journalist of the Year.

Newspaper of the Year was won by the Highland News and Rudhach, from Point in Lewis won the Community Newspaper of the Year Award.

Iain MacDonald, reporter with the BBC in Inverness, was presented with the Barron Trophy, which recognises lifelong achievement in journalism in the Highlands and Islands.

Richard Lochhead, Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment presented the prizes at the event

The Media Awards are sponsored by Diageo and supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

The Press Ball raised £2,400 and the four charities to benefit are the ARCHIE Foundation, Alzheimer Scotland, Highland Hospice and Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, who will each receive £600.
