Media Release: Scottish comedians beat the big boys at their own game

A TEAM of Scottish comedians have beaten some of the biggest names in sport at their own game.

Says a spokesperson: “Combining comedy banter with football chat has seen their Scottish Comedy FC football podcast rocket up the iTunes charts, overtaking some serious players, including official podcasts from the Barclay’s Premiership, RBS Six Nations and even BBC Scotland’s flagship show, Off The Ball.

“The huge success of the podcast comes hot on the heels of the launch of the Scottish Comedy FC website, in which comedians from across the country vent their spleen on all matters relating to the beautiful game.”

The website and podcast is the brainchild of award-winning comedian, Ross ‘Teddy’ Craig, a former writer and script editor for BBC1’s Offside and regular contributor to Only an Excuse.

The popular podcast features lively chat about football from around the world – from Partick Thistle to the Mostar Derby in Bosnia and shot to No. 13 in the iTunes sports podcast chart.

Teddy said: “I realised a lot of comedians are into football and so ScottishComedyFC.com was born.

“Cheap flights, cable telly and the internet means football really is global now, hence the site’s motto: ‘Scottish comedians. World game’.

“Most of us are Scottish so of course we mention Scottish football, but not just Scottish football.

“Also, we’re keen to focus on the football itself. Too often in Scotland a discussion about football ends up veering off that topic and into some pretty murky areas. We want to change that.”

Teddy now has ambitious plans for the podcasts, including staging a live version at The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow.

He added: “The podcasts are proving so popular it would be great fun to do live versions and I’m keen to find a sponsor to help achieve that.”
