Media Release: Extra charities selected for the Baker Hughes 10K

LOCAL runners are once again signing up for the annual City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10K and this year organisers have expanded the number of official charities participants can raise cash for.

Homeless support charity, Aberdeen Cyrenians; local children’s charities, Befriend a Child, Cash for kids, and CLIC Sargent; and cancer charity, MacMillan Cancer Support, have all been selected as official charities of the 10K, which takes place on Sunday, May 20.

They will join CLAN Cancer Support, Children 1st, CHAS, Inspire, Erskine, UCAN, Alzheimer Scotland and Sue Ryder as official charities of the event.

The 10K event – which is being organised by Sport Aberdeen – is now in its 26th year and always receives a high number of participants, with last year’s run attracting 4,170 entries.

As well as the 10K, registration is also available for the 10K wheelchair race and the Banks O’ Dee Family Fun Run.

Graham Morrison, events and projects officer at Sport Aberdeen, said: “The Baker Hughes 10K is one of the most popular events in the local area and always attracts a large volume of participants.

“With such a high number of runners taking part, it seemed like a great opportunity to extend the event’s chosen charity list to include the extra five organisations.

“I would urge anyone who is thinking of taking part to get signed up as soon as possible for their chosen charity as places are already going fast.

“There are so many worthwhile causes in the North-east so it is fantastic to be able to support more of them, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome them all onboard.”

Sport Aberdeen took responsibility for delivering the core sport, physical recreation and sports development provision across the city in 2010.

The charitable trust provides a wide range of leisure and sports facilities, as well as activity programmes for all ages, interest groups and levels of participation.
