Media Release: Cardonald College Glasgow receives full marks from Her Majesty

CARDONALD College Glasgow’s reputation for delivering excellent services to learners and businesses has received well-deserved recognition today.

Says a spokesperson: “Her Majesty’s Inspectors carried out their independent review of the quality of provision at the College and found no main points for action.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment by the college’s staff and students.

“The report cites three examples of ‘excellent practice’, 14 key strengths; and four key confidence statements.

“The college has high quality learning and teaching processes in place and HM inspectors found that learner attainment rates at Cardonald were extremely high, with more than 90 per cent of all learners who complete their studies at the college progressing to employment or advanced level study.

“The review highlights this achievement in the context of the college’s catchment area comprising some of the most deprived communities in the West of Scotland.

“The fact that 400 learners progress each year from the college to university or other higher education institutions is a fantastic achievement and contributes hugely to supporting wider access to university-level education in Glasgow.”

The spokesperson adds: “The college prides itself in the very close links that its courses have with industry and developing the employability skills of students. HM Inspectors said: “… full-time programmes at Cardonald incorporate a wide range of effective work-based activities which prepare learners well for employment”.

The report concludes that the inspection team are “… confident that the college is led well and is enhancing the quality of its services for learners and other stakeholders and that the college, takes good account of national and local priorities and clearly outlines the college’s commitment and contribution to meeting these priorities, including Scottish Government’s five strategic objectives, Scotland’s skills strategy, and the Glasgow economic strategy, A step change for Glasgow.”

Susan Walsh, principal and chief executive of Cardonald College Glasgow, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of our recent review.

“It is particularly pleasing in such challenging financial times that our students reported very positively on their experiences at the college, and in particular that the quality of teaching is so good.”

“As the college enters its 40th anniversary year, Her Majesty’s Inspectors’ findings couldn’t be a better testimony to the valuable impact Cardonald College Glasgow makes on people’s lives and on the many businesses we serve through our education and training services.

“The report by Her Majesty’s Inspectors is reflective of the excellent relationships the college has and the support it receives from the many other public, private, voluntary sector organisations and employers who use our services.

“It is a report of which we should all be extremely proud. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of management and all our staff for their dedication in ensuring our learners and businesses have the best possible experience at Cardonald.”
