Media Release: Jazz à Vienne; France’s unmissable rendezvous for jazz addicts

FROM 28th June to 13th July, jazz takes over the French town of Vienne in the Rhône-Alpes, for the 32nd time

With over 40 musicians and bands – without including all the artists who play in fringe concerts, – the Jazz à Vienne Festival is well known amongst specialists and critics.

This year’s guests include Hugh Laurie, Mélodie Gardot, Manu di Bango, Bobby McFerrin, and stringed instruments will be in pride of place for the 2012 edition.

The festival welcomes all ages of musician with concerts from the Groove Gang – aged between 14 and 15, and students from the Flexible Hours Music College (CHAM) – to 72 year-old Eddy Louiss, award-winning organist.

The evening of Monday 9th July will be dedicated to Blues with performances from Keb’Mo’ and his suave, smooth voice singing out his rough, rural Delta Blues, and Magic slim with his black Stetson – a living legend in Chicago Blues.

Slim’s career dates back to the mid-50s, but it wasn’t until 1966 that he recorded his first album.

He has travelled the Atlantic to bring his rustic style and rugged voice to the stage in Vienne.

Whether you are a jazz expert or simply a music-lover, a sunset seen form the walls of the town’s Gallo-Roman amphitheatre is a unique experience no matter how great your knowledge of music.
